Hindi Movie Songs – Compilation (5)

This is the first part of a series about the popular Hindi movie songs since the year 1990. My earlier disinterest in the era after Kishoreda’s passing away has proven to be a major hindrance in gathering these links. But since all that sounds familiar to me must have also been popular in the last two decades, so here we go.

But a few remarks before that:

  • A lot of melodious stuff in the 1990s, despite the vacuum created due to Kishore Kumar’s passing away. Things haven’t been encouraging, though, in the last few years.
  • An overt reliance on the electronic/ digital/ computerized stuff has created a morass of its own.
  • No transforming moods. No quality lyrics to fall-back on either. The movie-wallahs seem to know little beyond the partying they want to portray.
  • The playback has really suffered in the absence of the old guards.
  • Aashiqui (1990) and Border (1997) are my personal favorites from this era.
