Sad Mohammed Rafi Songs

Rafi Saab, never seen not smiling. A truly divine soul! From where did he borrow the tears for these amazing songs?! The good humans may be having a better sense of the human sorrow, it would seem!

I’d to spend more time deciding about Mohammed Rafi songs compared to Kishore Kumar’s. Why so? Two reasons. Firstly, This blogger is no expert of Rafi’s legacy; having listened to KK more keenly makes it only easier for him to speak about Kishore Kumar songs. The same could not be spoken about Rafi, however. Secondly and more significantly, Rafi’s era belonged to a better poetry. I realize this more, the more I listen to his songs from the 50s and 60s in the present era. It demands more time classifying the Mohammed Rafi songs for their ‘Shayrana’ moods. While better recording techniques and the composers of RD Burman’s stature had a say in defining Kishore Kumar’s playback – who was a highly passionate singer anyway – he still did not have the Rafi-era poetry to aid him. The Hindi cinema was going through a transitional period with the new cine techniques like Eastman color, cinema scope and the slow motion cinematography ruling the roost in the 70s, as opposed to the good scripting and song writing, which dominated the Rafi-epoch.

The scenario only worsened after Kishore Kumar’s demise, with the Hindi music slumping into a lasting morass of all-things untalented. A better poetry and scripting might be about to make a new start, however, at a time the Hindi-movie makers had more resources and far better techniques to rely on.

    Jo awaz ki khoobsorti Allah ne Rafi sahib ko Aata Ki, Rafi Sahib ne us ke sath poora poora insaaf kiya or us ko bulundiyon tak ponchaya. un ki class ka singer na pehle kabhi tha, na ainda kabhi hoga.Jab tak dunya ka nizam chal raha he, Rafi Sb ki awaz hamesha suni jati rahe gi.

    When we talk abt sad songs of Rafi sahab, “hai duniya usi ki, zamana usi ka’ is definitely in top 10…IMHO

    I’d rather prefer Hai Duniya Usiki Zamana Usika in the romantic genre (or may be in the Blues of Romance), since it has a very strong romantic flavor to it as well. I’m in the process of updating the various collections of mine (the Indian ISPs have started blocking several of the previously listed websites I have had) and will add this suitably somewhere down the line.

    Rafi sahab ki awaaz ka asr har ek insaan ko zindgee ki khoobsoorti aur uksi haqeeqat mahsoos kara deti hai, kyon ki woh bahot nek insaan theh, Allah taala jo neymat unhe di unohne sab ko baant di, shayad ho bhi sakta ho ke unse ziyada khoobsoorat awaaz ka malik eis duniya may aur bhi aa jaaye, par aysi insaniyat ki misaal jo unohne di hai…koi nahin de sakta.
